Lorna Joan Schroeder's Obituary
Lorna J. Schroeder, age 96, got her heavenly wings early Thursday morning, July 4, 2024, in Muskegon. Born September 3, 1927, in Ontario, Canada she moved to Detroit as a young girl. Lorna’s life was a testament to love, resilience, faith and dedication. Graduating from Hillsdale College, she went on to a career at The Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, MI and began her family with William Schroeder Jr. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She traveled the country seeking wildflower meadows, hiking to Rocky Mountain streams and vistas, loved Petoskey stone and agate hunting on the shores of Lake Superior. She was selfless and endlessly curious. Her homemade pies were legendary, making every gathering a special occasion. Lorna’s kindness extended beyond her family. She was an active member of her small community, volunteering at local charities and participating in church activities at Community United Methodist Church in North Muskegon. Her generosity and compassion touched many lives, and she will be remembered for her unwavering love, support and friendship. Survivors include Cathy Schroeder (Amy Lienhard), John Schroeder (Joy Schroeder), Mackenzie Gagliardi (JJ Gagliardi). She was preceded in death by parents, John and Irene Mitchell, brother, Richard Mitchell and son, William Schroeder III. A graveside service will be held July 15 at 1PM at Laketon Township Cemetery. Contributions in the memory of Lorna Schroeder may be made to The Leila & Cyrus Poppen House Hospice Residence. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444.
