Lorraine Blanche Gatz's Obituary
Lorraine Blanche Gatz, age 95, passed away at North Ottawa Care Center at Heartwood Lodge on Thursday April 19, 2018.
She was born to George and Gertrude Boehringer on September 21, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago, Illinois. On September 19, 1942 she married Edward Anthony Gatz at St. Giles Church in Oak Park, Illinois.
Lorraine worked as a secretary for Carson Pierre Scott in Chicago after graduating from high school. She trained as a cosmetic consultant for Estee Lauder at Rennackers Drug Store in Glenview Illinois. Then she went on to work in the clerical field doing stenography and dictation transcribing for E. I DuPont. She became an office manager for Patterson Parchment Company in Park Ridge. Prior to retirement she was a text proof reader for Scott Foresman and Company in Northbrook. Upon retirement she and her husband moved to Spring Lake, Michigan from Glenview, Illinois in 1981.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, golfing, dominoes and going to the movies. She often returned to the Chicago area to visit with her family and friends. She made many good friends through participating in the Clock Funeral Home’s Widows Group and enjoyed meeting them for lunch and cards at the Mona Shore Boat Club. She was a member of North Ottawa Community Hospital’s Auxiliary. During her membership in the Grand Haven Women’s Club she served two terms as the club’s president. She enjoyed her twenty two years living at Lloyd’s Bayou Senior Apartment and the friends she made there also.
The family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to the following organizations and individuals who provided wonderful care for Lorraine over her years here in Spring Lake: North Ottawa Community Hospital, Heartwood Lodge staff, Hospice nurses and volunteers, Dr. Jack Roossien, Dr. Griswold, Dr. Kamminga, Dr. Holibaugh, Dr. Leenhouts, and Todd Beck, RN from Care One.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Edward. She is survived by her daughter Janice (Wayne) Beuschel, her son George (Connee Conway) Gatz, her grandchildren Jensine Beuschel and William (Kelly-Michelle) Beuschel, and her great grandchildren Kaydence Beuschel, McCaelyn Beuschel and Weston Beuschel.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018. at Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services - The VanZantwick Chapel. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service.
