Mrs. Lorraine Beatrice Wood's Obituary
Lorraine Beatrice Wood, age 92, of Norton Shores, Michigan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 after a short illness. She was born August 25, 1922 in Muskegon. Lorraine is survived by her children Tom and Dawn Wood of Norton Shores and Randy Wood also of Norton Shores; grand-daughters Elizabeth Detlinger and Aimee Wood; her sister Ruth Wilson; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank T. Wood, her parents Arthur Coston and India Hazel Coston (Bissinger), and her brother Larry Coston. Lorraine married Frank Wood on July 4, 1943. They raised two sons, Tom and Randy, built their home in Norton Shores together and were active in the Lake Harbor United Methodist Church where Lorraine taught Sunday school for many years. Lorraine received her bachelor degree from Western Michigan University. She was a special education teacher for the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District. In her retirement years she enjoyed gardening, knitting and sewing, genealogy and spending time with her family and friends. She and Frank enjoyed traveling, and spent many winters in Florida. She will be remembered for her intelligence, quick wit and wonderful peanut brittle, chocolate brownies and for hosting family gatherings. Lorraine’s funeral will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church (4861 S. Henry St.) with Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Visitation will precede the funeral at 11:00 AM. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hume Home at 1244 W. Southern Ave. Interment will be made in Norton Cemetery.
