Lossie Mae Simmons' Obituary
Lossie Mae Simmons, age 92, passed away at home on August 23, 2018. She was born on June 14, 1926 to Lozie and Exzenia (Hawkins) Jones in Como, Mississippi. She was a lifelong member of Spring St. Baptist Church and was a part of the Mother’s Board at the church. Lossie enjoyed her family, gardening and traveling. On December 24, 1946 she married, Booker T. Simmons and he preceded her in death in 2013. SURVIVORS include 5 children, Booker (Debra) Simmons, Velma Simmons, Stan (Natalie) Simmons, Dwight (Sharon) Simmons and Gregory Simmons; 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; sisters, Easter Jones, Fannie (Bennie) Steward, Shirley Jones and niece, Linda Upchurch. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Vestoria Jackson; son, Michael Simmons; granddaughter, Tiffany Simmons and several other brothers and sisters. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Spring Street Baptist Church, 912 Spring St., with Reverend Dewayne Banks officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8PM Friday evening at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210. MEMORIALS can be directed in Lossie’s name to the Leukemia Foundation. BURIAL will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
