Louisa Maria Vargo's Obituary
Louisa Maria Vargo, age 86, passed away Friday morning, February 19, 2016. She was born April 26, 1929 in Coimbra, Portugal to Joseph and Julia (Garcia) Neves. Louisa attended Bloomfield College in New Jersey. After college, she worked for the Portuguese Consulate in New York City. She then returned to Portugal and got a job working at the American Embassy. While in Portugal, she met her soon to be husband, Joseph P. Vargo, and they married on January 14, 1956 in Lisbon. They then returned to the United States, and for a brief period lived in North Carolina before settling in Muskegon. In 1960 she became a U.S. Citizen. Louisa worked for almost 30 years for Muskegon Bank and Trust/First of America as an Assistant Vice-President and Trust Officer before retiring. During her career, she obtained her MBA from Northwestern University. She was also a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. SURVIVORS include 2 children: Paul Vargo of Norton Shores, Lisa (Paul) Palasek of Wheaton, IL; 2 grandsons: John Paul Palasek and Joseph Michael Palasek; sister, Aida Santos of Lisbon, Portugal; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Joseph; brother, Joseph Neves; and 2 sisters: Virginia Neves and Paula Perdigao. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, February 27, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church – Marian Chapel with the Rev. Fr. James R. VanderLaan presiding. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS to the Noah Project (Animal Shelter) or the Muskegon Catholic Education Foundation will be appreciated.
