Louis "Lou" Anthony Philip's Obituary
Mr. Louis “Lou” Anthony Philip, age 71, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 24, 1939 in Muskegon to Louis S. and Marie (Schillaci) Philip. He worked briefly at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing in the early 1960’s. He retired from Ingham Medical Center in Lansing after numerous years as Director of Purchasing. On November 11, 1966, he married the former Terrie Lee Bristol in Lansing and she survives him. Lou was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Muskegon and the Catholic Community of St. Jude in DeWitt. Lou was an avid runner, completing 5 marathons in his lifetime and forming close friendships along the way. He had a love of the water, spending his later years near Lake Michigan where boating and fishing brought him great joy. He will be remembered as a loyal friend, loving family man and special “Papa”. Along with his wife, Terrie, he is also survived by 3 children, Leslie Polack, Gina (Mark) Lisenby, Anthony Louis Philip all from East Lansing, MI; 2 grandsons, Jacob and Lucas Polack; 2 aunts, Elsie Schillaci and Josephine Schillaci; cousin & special friend, Henry (Judi) Schillaci; the Schillaci cousins, Robert, Richard, Gerard, Andrew, Danny, Lenny, David; the Belmonte cousins, Sam, Frances, Rosemary, Kristyne, Larry, and Johnny. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Gloria Freres. VISITATION for Lou will be held 2-4 PM Sunday, February 20, 2011, with the Rosary prayed at 2:30 PM at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565. VISITATION will also be held 6-8 PM Monday, February 21, 2011 at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home, the DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI 48820. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge Street, DeWitt, MI 48820, with the Rev. Fr. Dwight Ezop as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church 10-11 AM on Tuesday before the Mass.
