Lucile Rose Brow's Obituary
The Brow family announces the passing of Lucile R. Brow, 91, of Muskegon on May 6, 2011, at Mercy VNS and Hospice Services. Lucile was born Lucile Rose Stever in Honor, Michigan, the youngest daughter of William Riley Stever and Hattie Rose Tobey. Born in the humble shack of a Michigan lumberjack’s home, Lucile was born without her father’s care having passed away one month prior to her birth. Lucile’s mother remarried six months later to Delbert Barhitte, who became the man she knew as father. They moved to Muskegon and she has been a proud resident here ever since. Lucile married the love of her life, Elmer A. Brow on April 14, 1941, eloping to Louisville, Kentucky. Elmer and Lucile enjoyed 63 years of marriage when Elmer passed away in 2003. Lucile loved people and began working at Harry A. Straub and Son Company at age 16 until the business closed its doors in 1974. She continued her home decorating career at Airline Paint until she was approached by VanderVelde’s Furniture to further her career at a time when many companies would expect an employee of her age to retire. Lucile worked until she retired in 1991. Lucile believed in community and served many years for the Cherry Guild of Hackley Hospital until she was 87 years old. She was also an avid genealogist, a longtime member of the Muskegon Genealogical Society, making many wonderful friends while searching for her family history. Throughout her long and happy life, nothing gave her more joy than her family. She is survived by oldest son, David A. Brow and wife, Barbara J. Brow (Bedau); son, James L. Brow and wife, Susan K. Brow (Workman); daughter, Barbara A. Brow (E. Lynn Crampton); six beloved grandchildren, Margaret and Michael Brow, Jennifer Brow Pennington (James), Melissa Miller Brow (Mark), Jennifer Dunlap, Kristen Collee; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews. Lucile was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Anna P. Stever Barhitte, brother, Neil Stever, and beloved grandson, Mark K. Brow. A MEMORIAL VISITATION will be from 6-8PM Monday, May 16, 2011 at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565. Lucile’s family is profoundly grateful to the loving care given to our mother and the family from the amazing staff of Mercy VNS & Hospice Services. They are all truly angels of mercy. We ask those who wish to pay tribute to Lucile to consider a donation to their facility in lieu of flowers.
