Lucille M. (Carlson) Broersma's Obituary
Mrs. Lucille M. (Carlson) Broersma, age 91, went to be with her Lord Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Spring Lake. She was born in Muskegon on July 18, 1919 to John and Anna (Johnson) Gustavson; and married Henry Carlson, in Muskegon, on November 2, 1940. He died on March 5, 1982. She then married Howard Broersma on October 22, 1983 and they lived in Grand Haven and North Ft. Myers, FL until Howard died in 1995. She was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven and Trinity Reformed Church in Cape Coral, FL. Lucille had worked for Naegle Outdoor Advertising, National Lumberman’s Bank as Assistant Vice President of Advertising and Public Relations, Muskegon County Consumer Protection and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. She belonged to the Women’s Division of the Muskegon Chamber of Commerce where she had been active for 42 years; and was chosen Business Woman of the Year, 1973-74. She was also a member of the Muskegon Zonta Club and Viking Linne Lodge #57. Lucille was always very active and enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Linda (James) Bos of Spring Lake, Richard (Susan) Carlson of Norton Shores, Robert (Phyllis) Carlson of Grand Haven; 3 step-children, Nancy (Alvin) Tans of Ft. Mill, SC, Hugh (Sandra) Broersma and Steve (Sindy) Broersma both of Grand Haven; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Doris Peisert, and brother, Jack Gustavson. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100)with the Rev. Mike Koetje officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with Lucille’s family will be 5-8PM Tuesday. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or a special charity of your choice, as Lucille had many.
