Luella M. Suchovsky's Obituary
Luella Marguerite Suchovsky, age 97, passed away on Aug. 31, 2020. Born Luella Salter on Feb. 3, 1923, in Muskegon, she met Carl Suchovsky as a teenager. They married on Nov. 1, 1941, and lived in Kansas and Tacoma, Washington, while Carl served in the U.S. Cavalry during World War II. After Carl completed his military service in 1946, they moved back to Muskegon to start Port City Candy & Tobacco Co., selling products to customers in Muskegon. They later opened Cee-J Wholesale Co. in Muskegon Heights, which they operated until 2013. They raised their four children in an apartment in Muskegon Heights until they moved into a home they built in Norton Shores in 1967. Luella enjoyed hosting family gatherings for the holidays and summer weekends at their home in Norton Shores. Luella and Carl loved to travel, and took their children on cross country trips, including California, the Desert Southwest and the Pacific Northwest. They also traveled to Europe and Asia. Luella was preceded in death by her husband Carl, who died in 2013, her parents Iloh and Delbert Salter, brother Kenneth "Bud" Salter, sister Marva Talmadge, and son-in-law Michael Smith. She is survived by sons Carl Wayne (Nancy) and James, and daughters Cheryl (Kenneth) Abramczyk and Laurie Swift-Smith; grandchildren Cathy (Dallas) Stiles, Carl James (Debbie) Suchovsky, Andrea (Jonathon) Knight, Lee Anne (Andrew) Bay, Heather Campbell, Jessica Swift, Zachary Swift and Elliot (Monika) Swift; 12 great grandchildren; special niece Marcia Follett and several nephews. The Memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions directed to American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
