Luis G. Olivares' Obituary
Luis Granillo Olivares, age 97, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022. He was born on May 8, 1925, to Luis Menasis and Maria Remedios in Tecamac, Mexico. Luis was one of nine children who all grew up in his beloved hometown of Tecamac. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and extended family. Luis served in the Mexican Armed Forces before he moved to the United States and eventually made his way to Michigan. He took the utmost pride in being an American Citizen. Luis had many hobbies which included gardening and landscaping. He was an avid reader who enjoyed learning about American philosophy and history. He had a passion for dancing particularly salsa, polka, and ballroom dancing with his female friends. One of the highlights of his life was a dancing appearance on the Lawrence Welk Show. He especially enjoyed playing the “Happy Birthday Song” on his harmonica for family and friends on their birthdays every year. Luis is survived by his children, Angela (Robert) Romanin, Marcos (Susan) Olivares, Marcia Mirelez, Thomas Olivares, Maria Olivares, Luz Maria Granillo Del Rey; grandchildren, Leigha (Nicholas) Sochurek, Dargin Romanin, Samantha Romanin, Marilyn Sarber, Enrique Olivares, Jasmine Gallegos, Jessica Mirelez, Tomas Olivares, Bryan Derr, Nicholas Derr, Alberto Garza; many great grandchildren; and sister, Estella Ortiz Olivares. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Garza; son, Enrique Olivares; and seven siblings. A VISITATION with Luis’ family will take place on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at The Lee Chapel of the Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores MI 49444. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Luis will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Mona View Cemetery.
