Mr. Lynn Charles DeSplinter's Obituary
Mr. Lynn Charles DeSplinter, age 63, known to his trucking friends as ‘Smokey Joe’, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 27, 2014 in Indiana. Lynn was born February 6, 1951 to Henry and Fern (Lindell) in Geneseo, IL. Lynn served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as part of the underwater demolition team. On May 24, 1997 he married the love of his life, Jennifer Sue VanTil in Holland, MI and she survives him. Lynn was joyfully employed as a truck driver for Griffin Transportation and had just been named driver of the month. Earlier on in his 40 year career, he had driven for Yellow Transportation, and he and Jennifer owned and operated American Motor Freight. Lynn loved spending time with his family and enjoyed following politics and the direction of our country. In addition to his wife, Jennifer, he is survived by his daughter, Raeann; sons from a previous marriage, Travis (Meagan) DeSplinter and Keith DeSplinter; grandson, Fisher; sister, Doreen (Keith) Brennan; brother, Dennis (Carolyn) DeSplinter; twin brother, Lyle ‘Butch’ DeSplinter; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Irina) VanTil and Kevin (Heather) VanTil; sister-in-law, Heather (Rodney) King; and 9 nieces and 3 nephews. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 1, 2014 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St. with Pastor John H. Brown officiating and Full Military Rites afforded under the auspice of V.F.W. Muskegon County Council. VISITATION with the family will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to the family.
