Lynne Mary Wood's Obituary
Lynne Mary Wood, age 64, passed away August 30, 2018. She was born February 11, 1954 to Melvin and Eleanor (Engleright) DeYoung and was a lifelong resident of Muskegon. After working for The Buyers’ Guide for several years, Lynne began a 30-year clerical career at Muskegon Community College, retiring in 2009. She graduated from MCC in 1994 and went on to be “the oldest, living, part-time anthropology student at Grand Valley State University” where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Lynne enjoyed league bowling, running, biking, swimming, ice skating and cross-country skiing and was an avid reader. She was also a member of the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. Lynne is survived by her mother, Eleanor DeYoung; her son, Thorin Wood; her 25-year domestic partner, Richard Carney, Sr.; sisters, Joan (Walt) Gawkowski, Nancy (Mike) Ribecky; brother, Craig (Beth) DeYoung; along with nieces and nephews, Lisa (Dan) Salvati, Jason Ribecky, Amy (Carlo) Rodes, Ann Gawkowski, Sarah and Andy DeYoung. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin “Mel” DeYoung. A brief memorial service will be held Saturday, September 15, at 1:00 PM, at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. Visitation will take place for 2 hours after the service, also at the funeral home.
