Madelynn Birchmeier, or as she was lovingly referred to as Maddie, had a smile that will never be forgotten. Her infectious laugh and sweet personality made her easy to love. Her family and caregivers could not help but to fall in love with Maddie. Maddie was part of a wider community with her rare diagnosis of Angelman Syndrome. Her story, Maddie’s Joy, was not only seen by family and friends, but was shared throughout the world reaching 22 different countries. In Madelynn’s short life she gave so much and taught so many. Her hospital room was often visited by multiple students, fellows, and attending physicians. Her loving personality meant plenty of smiles to strangers, and plenty of kisses to the ones she loved. Her favorite things to do were to dance with her dad, cuddle with her mom, and Maddie could never get enough tickles. In Madelynn’s final moments, she once again gave to individuals in need.
