Madonna Marie Bogner's Obituary
A Memorial Luncheon for Madonna will be 1PM, Sunday, September 14, 2025 at the VFW Post 7729 (6285 E Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442).
Mrs. Madonna Marie Bogner, age 97, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025. She was born January 9, 1928 in Cedar Creek Twp. to Joseph and Mary (Peterson) Schmitt; was a life resident of the area. Madonna was a graduate of the Hackley School of Nursing and worked as an LPN nurse for Dr. Lawrence Lauretti for 24-1/2 years prior to her retirement. She was also a lifetime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and of VFW Post 7729 Auxiliary. She had also served on the Advisory Board of the Muskegon Veteran’s Center.
On April 28, 1956, she married Lawrence A. Bogner and he preceded her in death in 1995 after 39 years of marriage. Madonna loved to work on puzzles. Sewing was her life and she made hats for babies at the hospital and sewed for the Veterans. She shared her passion for sewing with many, even traveling to the Veteran’s Hospital in Marquette to bring her gift to others.
Madonna is survived by three sons, Lawrence F. (Carolina) Bogner of Muskegon, John Bogner of Muskegon, Robert (Laurie) Bogner of Grand Haven; two daughters, Gwen Hall of Traverse City and Jackie Cordier of Florida; 5 grandchildren, Derek, Ayme, Erika, Emily and Hannah; 6 great grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, Charlene Schmitt, Irene Schmitt and Brenda Schmitt; and by many nieces and nephews. Madonna was also preceded in death by her precious daughter, Pamela Bogner Seeger and husband, Wayne, in 2010; three sisters, Lorraine (Howard) Sullivan Mary Ann (John) Bohach and Theresa VanDyke; and three brothers, Fred Schmitt, Joseph “Bernie” Schmitt, and Frank “Jerry” Schmitt.
The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, August 21, 2025 at St. Thomas Catholic Church (3252 Apple Ave). Burial will be in Egelston Twp. Cemetery. VISITATION with Madonna’s family will be 6-8 PM Wednesday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave. Muskegon, MI 49442. A Rosary will be prayed at 7PM during the visitation. Madonna requests no flowers, but rather would have you consider a more lasting memorial to either Our Lady of the Lake - Fr.
