Magdalene S. Afendoulis' Obituary
Magdalene Afendoulis, age 91, passed away Sunday morning, November 29, 2020. She was born April 28, 1929 in Detroit, MI to Efthymios and Maria (Oreologlou) Gabriel and lived in the Muskegon area since 2010. On October 17, 1954, she married Gust Afendoulis in Pontiac, MI and he preceded her in death in 2005. Magdalene was a fulltime homemaker until her children were grown. She went to clothing design school and worked at Jacobson’s Department Store in Grand Rapids. She later worked as a greeter for Meijer, Inc. 1990-2011. She was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where she sang with the choir for over 25 years and was a member of Philoptochos. She enjoyed sewing and handcrafted beautiful clothing with coordinating hats. She loved to watch old movies. Church and family were the center of her life. Survivors include her son, Rev. Fr. John (Adina) Afendoulis of Saunderstown, RI; her daughter, Nicci (Ken) Clark of Whitehall; 6 grandchildren, John (Martina) Clark, David (Lauren) Clark, Timothy (Jenny) Clark, Thomas Clark, Auxentios Afendoulis, Orestes Afendoulis; 7 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Christian, Gia, Georgia, Gus, Abe, Sam; 4 brothers, Sam (Kathy) Gabriel, Stavro (Cindy) Gabriel, Demetrious Asim, Michael (Michelle) Asim; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gust Afendoulis; her parents; and 1 brother, Alex Gabriel; and very close relatives, Despina and Nicholas Asim. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 AM followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (185 E. Pontaluna Rd., Norton Shores, MI 49441) with her son, Rev. Fr. John Afendoulis, and her priest, Rev. Fr. John Sakellariou presiding. The Mercy Meal will follow in the church hall. Visitation will also be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 5-8 PM Wednesday with the Trisagion Service at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening. Interment will take place at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Grand Rapids. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Philoptochos at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
