Marc Okkonen's Obituary
Marc Okkonen, died Monday, May 27, 2019. He was born July 21, 1933 to Jacob and Ida Okkonen. He attended Muskegon Public Schools and was in the graduating class of 1951. After high school he was drafted into the US Army, upon his honorable discharge from the Army he attended and graduated from the University of Michigan - Dearborn Campus.
Marc was a gifted man who could draft, draw or paint scenes or portraits. He became an authority on baseball, authoring several books that were meticulously researched. He also was interested in Buster Keaton’s Muskegon heritage, Big Reds Football, Marsh Field and a verity of other topics.
He is survived by brothers, Jack and Oliver; sister, Mary Westhoff; beloved nephews and nieces: Stephen, Gail, Jeffrey, Kathryn, Nancy, Laura, Diana, Dan, John, Joel. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, John Dolke; sisters-in-law, Monica and Alice; and brother-in-law, Richard Westhoff.
A celebration luncheon will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28 (700 S. Harbor Dr. Grand Haven, MI 49417). Military honors will be at 1:00 PM at the legion. Memorial contributions in memory of Marc may be given the Muskegon Clippers. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
