Marcia Kendra's Obituary
Marcia Kendra – loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother — went home to be with the Lord at 8:25 am on Friday, January 13, 2023.
Born in Muskegon, Michigan on April 21, 1936 to Albert and Minnie Nachazel. She grew up in Muskegon with brother, Thomas, and graduated from Catholic Central High School.
Marcia married Donald Kendra in 1955 and welcomed their first child, Jean, the next year. In the following six years their family expanded by four more children: Mary, Joseph, Michael and Cathy.
She was a stay-at-home mother for many years before entering the work force eventually retiring from Michigan Coastal Credit Union.
After retiring, Marcia and Don spent many years enjoying the Florida winters. Marcia developed a love of collecting seashells which adorned her homes in Michigan and Florida. Her grandchildren will long remember her for her craftwork, drawings, paintings, and ceramics
Marcia was an active retiree, volunteering with Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the Hospice Society. Her greatest love was for the unborn, raising money and standing vigil at abortion clinics. In 2007, she was awarded the Voice for Life Award by the Muskegon County Right for Life.
Marcia is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald, as well as her children: Jean Kendra (Jim Workman); Mary Horn (Dyrk); Joseph Kendra (Marie); Michael Kendra (Lisa) and Cathy Bohland. She was also loved by 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 23, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church (920 Fulton Ave, Grand Haven) with Rev. Fr. Charles Schwartz presiding. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30am followed by visitation before the Mass at the Church. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Aid to Women Center, 1328 E Apache Blvd, Tempe, AZ 85281 or Muskegon Right to Life, 427 Seminole Rd #108, Norton Shores, MI 49441.
