Marcus Horness Jr's Obituary
Mr. Marcus “Mark” Horness Jr, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2020. He was born on December 24, 1930 in Muskegon to Marcus and Helene (Ravneng) Horness. Mark attended Muskegon High School and later graduated from Central Bible Institute in Missouri. He went on to complete his bachelor’s degree at Western Michigan University. Mark proudly served his country while in the United States Army from 1954-1956. Mark worked in construction building homes and commercial buildings for over 60 years. He was extremely proud to say he built his own home, finishing in 1958. He married the former Joyce Romans Lodes on May 11, 1996 in Muskegon. Mark was a gifted pianist and was a member of the Praise Team and choir director at Central Assembly of God, where he was a lifelong member. He also enjoyed spending time on his boat, fishing in Muskegon Lake. Mark will be missed by his wife, Joyce; children, Beth Horness, Mark (Sarah) Horness and Paula (Corbin) Hildebrandt; step-children, Gayle Cunningham, David (Marian) Lodes, Shawn (Jean) Lodes, Keith (Michelle) Lodes and Kevin (Ester) Lodes; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Otis “Butch” (Judy) Romans; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and family in Norway. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30AM Thursday, September 3 at Central Assembly of God (896 Home St., 49442) with Pastor Wally Reames and Pastor Gordon Aikin officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service from 9:30-10:30AM. Memorial contributions in Mark’s name may be directed to Harbor Hospice Foundation, Central Assembly of God or National Kidney Foundation.
