Marcus Dale Johnson's Obituary
Mr. Marcus Dale Johnson, age 95, was promoted to glory on Saturday, June 5, 2021 in Muskegon. He was born in Muskegon on November 18, 1925 to Thomas and Verna (Harrell) Johnson. Marcus was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class and was stationed at St. Albans Hospital in Long Island, NY during WWII. After his service to his country, Marcus was employed as a Fireman for the City of Muskegon for 29 years prior to his retirement in 1979. Marcus enjoyed playing cards and had a competitive personality. He was a member of Central Assembly of God Church and the White Lake Shuffleboard Club. Marcus was preceded in death by two wives, Edith M. (Abbott) Johnson in 1990 and Ruth E. (Horness) Johnson in 2016; son, Kenneth Obenauf; brothers, Orville U. Johnson and Joseph Johnson; and sisters, Helen Batts and Murl Hughes. He is survived by two children, James (LaRae) Obenauf and Nancy (Orville E.) Johnson; Ruth’s children, Joan (Irving) Cryderman and Donald Harms; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A CELEBRATION OF MARCUS’ LIFE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Central Assembly of God Church with Rev. Wally Reames, III officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to his service at church. Burial will be in Laketon Township Cemetery. MEMORIALS in memory of Marcus may be directed to Central Assembly of God building fund.
