Margaret Florman's Obituary
Mrs. Margaret A. Florman, age 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 2, 2005, at Dayspring Assisted Living Facility, in Muskegon.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on October 24, 1906, Margaret lived a large part of her adult life in Michigan. She attended Vassar College in New York, and graduated with honors, in 1928, with a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. She went on to teach briefly in a school outside of Chicago before marrying her husband, Lewis W. Florman, in 1930. During the Great Depression, they moved to Onekama, Michigan, to operate a mail-order stamp distribution business serving postage stamp collectors around the country. Later, they opened a radio and appliance sales and repair shop there. When World War II broke out, and they could no longer get appliances to sell, they left Michigan to support the war effort. Then, in 1955, moved to Grand Rapids, where they lived out the rest of their years.
They were very active within the Park Congregational Church. In addition, both Margaret and Lewis led spiritual growth groups in their home, and Margaret continued to do so after Lewis passed away in 1978. Margaret lived independently in her own home well into her 90’s with the help of Charles Martell, a close friend and companion.
Margaret is lovingly survived by her son, George L. Florman of Torrance, California, and her daughter, Marjorie F. Beaver of Muskegon, plus six grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A celebration of Margaret’s full and rich life will be held at 1:00 PM, on Monday, December 12, 2005, in the chapel of Park Congregational Church.
