Margaret Jane Workman's Obituary
Margaret Jane Sturrus Workman was born October 16, 1930 to Catherine and Marinus Sturrus in Oak Park, Illinois. Unexpectedly, Margaret died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 3, 2014. She married Alan Workman, the love of her life, on June 20, 1951. Margaret was a devoted mother and superb homemaker. She is survived by Alan and her loving, grateful children: Linda Carver, Steve Workman and Kim Schmidt, Lori and Ken Batts, and Lisa and John Mulder. Her beloved son, Dean, died July, 2005. Margaret’s grandchildren provided her with an abundant amount of joy. She and “Poppy” were faithful supporters of all of the grandkids’ (and their friends’) sporting, musical, and life events. Margaret was an involved and faithful supporter of Muskegon Christian School (the first female board member), Western Michigan Christian High School, First Christian Reformed Church of Muskegon, and Ferrysburg Community Church.
Margaret’s grandchildren will always be mindful of and grateful for their grandma’s love and dedication, and will hold her near and dear in their hearts: Megan Carver, Charlie and Kallie Carver, Rob and Megan Workman (Holden and Oliver), Steve and Amy Workman, Sara and Chris May, Lindsey and Marcus Syverson (Mac), Jeff and Stephanie Batts, Alex Batts, Ben Rosema, Jerrold Rosema, Daniel Rosema, Alysa Rosema, Julie and Scott Witte (Joel, Megan and Allie), Matt Mulder (Ethan and Fiona), Mark and Julie Mulder, and Emilia and Justin Perry. Margaret was overjoyed with the recent births of great-grandchildren, twins Holden Dean and Oliver Gray Workman (born February 25, 2014) and Marcus Alexander Syverson V (born April 8, 2014).
She is also survived by her dear siblings, brother Pete (Carolyn) Sturrus, sister Nellie Joyce Webb, brother-in-law, Burton Tjapkes, and nieces and nephews. Margaret and Alan treasured their many cherished friends.
As only God could have orchestrated, Margaret and Alan enjoyed her last night on earth with their family celebrating life and the abiding love of her family. Margaret’s family is assured of her joy as she now rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior and celebrates being reunited with their son, Dean.
A celebration of Margaret’s earthly and eternal life is planned for Sunday, May 25, 12:00PM at Ferrysburg Community Church, 17785 Mohawk Drive, Spring Lake. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Muskegon Christian School or Western Michigan Christian High School would be welcome.
