Margaretha Powers' Obituary
Margaretha Powers, age 99, passed away in Fruitport, MI, on Friday, February 24, 2023. Margaretha was born in Basel, Switzerland on January 6, 1924, to her parents Maximillian and Laura (Baumann) Habijanic. In 1955 she met Robert Powers while he was serving overseas in Europe, and on February 22, 1957, they got married in London, England. They spent almost 59 wonderful years together until Robert preceded her in death in 2016. Margaretha loved travelling the world, which she was able to do quite a bit throughout her lifetime. She lived in Chicago for many years, then spent many years living in Virginia before moving to Michigan recently to be closer to family. In her younger years she greatly enjoyed ice skating and was always a part of the choir at whatever church she was a member of. She loved to entertain, whether it was hosting gatherings in her home or participating in the planning of events at church. Margaretha will be lovingly remembered by her son, Frank (Leah) Powers; four grandchildren: Jonathan (Terri), Dylan, Julianne, and Maya; four great-grandchildren: Ian, Mathias, Hezekiah, and Veronica; three nieces and nephews: Franco Cairoli, Lore Leuenberger, and Petra Stingelin; and many loving members of her church family at Seaford Baptist Church in Virginia. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Maximillian and Laura; husband, Robert; and sister, Laura Cairoli. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be taking place for Margaretha at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 2, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior. In the future she will be buried with her husband, Robert, at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Please sign the family’s online guestbook and share memories with the family at sytsemafh.com
