Margrathe G. "Maggie" Blakeman's Obituary
Mrs. Margrathe G. “Maggie” Blakeman, age 96, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 at her home. She was born February 23, 1912 in Muskegon to Bert and Mabel (Gibbs) Swanker. She married Victor J. Blakeman in Muskegon Heights on March 19, 1938. He preceded her in death on August 5, 2001. Mrs. Blakeman received her accounting degree from Muskegon Business School in 1932. She, along with her husband Victor, owned and operated Professional Business Service in Muskegon for many years. Maggie was also one of the founding members of the West Shore Jazz Society. She is survived by: 1 son, William J. (Barbara) Blakeman of Muskegon; 1 daughter, Roberta A. (David) Hafenbrack of Murphy, NC; 1 brother, Robert (Bea) Swanker of Muskegon; 1 sister, Charlotte Zagaroli of Hickory, NC; 7 grandchildren, Jeff, Joel, Jon, Jason and Jaime Blakeman, Nina (Gary) Erdman and David Peabody; also 14 great-grandchildren. A MEMORIAL GATHERING will be held 2 – 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100.
