Mrs. Marie B. Hekkema's Obituary
Mrs. Marie B. Hekkema, age 85, passed away peacefully in her home September 7th, 2017. Marie was born Marie Bernice Doud on September 23rd, 1931 to Raymond and Melinda (LaVasseur) Doud in Muskegon. On December 5th, 1953, she married Albert Hekkema, and they spent 63 years together. She is survived by her son Mike (Jen) Hekkema and grandson Devin Hekkema; her daughter Nan Hekkema and grandchildren Joshua Flickema, Kara (Tony) Cunningham, and Allison Eckert; and great grandchildren Porter and Parker Cunningham. She was proceeded in death by her husband Albert Hekkema, her parents and her brother Arthur (Dodie) Doud. Marie spent her years caring for her family and helping her husband with his celery farm, construction and restaurant businesses. Marie enjoyed knitting, playing bridge, touring with The Muskegon Country Antique Auto Club, volunteering with the DAV and Ladies auxiliary, and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. Marie was a quiet presence, sweet and helpful. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. There will be no service per her request.
