Marie Frances Kordecki's Obituary
Marie Frances Kordecki, 94, of Norton Shores, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at Trinity Health – Muskegon Hospital.
Born on July 27, 1931, in Whitehall, Michigan, Marie was the daughter of Virgil and Violet (Morris) Fenner. She grew up in Greenville and, after marrying, made her home in the Muskegon/Norton Shores community.
Marie earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Valley State University while raising her four sons and building a home with her husband, Chet, an accomplishment that reflected her determination and commitment to both her family and her education. She went on to share her love of art with generations of elementary school children during her 19-year career as an elementary art teacher with Mona Shores Public Schools. Even years later, former students would stop her in stores or out in the community to tell her how much she had meant to them, a lasting testament to the care and encouragement she gave to so many young lives.
On April 17, 1952, she married Chester M. Kordecki in Greenville, Michigan. Together they built a life filled with faith, family, and lasting community ties.
Faith was a steady and guiding presence throughout Marie’s life. She was a devoted and active member of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church, where she served on the church board, participated in Bible study, and volunteered as needed. She also found joy in the everyday things that brought people together—lively games of Mahjong and Euchre, time spent with dear friends, and gatherings with the Thursday Breakfast Club at Whitlow’s Forerunner Restaurant.
Above all, Marie loved her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her four sons, Chester M. (Lisa) Kordecki, Christopher A. Kordecki, Stephen E. (Lynn) Kordecki, and David L. (Anita) Kordecki; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Virgilene Koren; and special friends, Dorey Oosting, Bill Walthers, and Shirley Walthers.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chester; her parents; and her sister, Maxine Rice.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church, 4861 Henry Street, Norton Shores, MI 49441, with Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church, 10-11AM Saturday at the church. Interment will follow in the Lake Harbor Memorial Garden. Memorial contributions in Marie’s honor may be made to the Lake Harbor United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
