Marie E. O'Neal's Obituary
Marie E. (Gaeler) O’Neal, age 91, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center. She was born March 3, 1926, in Grand Rapids, to Roy E. and Carolyn (Douglas) Gaeler, and married Lloyd C. O’Neal on August 23, 1947, in Grand Rapids. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2001.
Marie worked as an administrative assistant to her husband who was a CPA and owned and operated Lloyd C. O’Neal Accounting. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Grand Haven, Tuesday Musicale, she was into music, loved to garden, enjoyed the lake, loved sports, especially Michigan State Spartan sports. Marie’s volunteering was very important in her life, as she had volunteered in some way since the fifth grade. She volunteered at the hospital, but most of all enjoyed her volunteer work at Lakeshore Middle School with their reading program Score.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Pam O’Neal of Grand Haven; her son Terence O’Neal of Wyoming, MI; and her sister, Peggy Mahaney of Sparta, MI, niece, Jill Mahaney of Sparta, MI; nephew, Jeff (Cathy) Mahaney of Comstock Park, niece, Mimi (Peter) Stalzer and Alex Stalzer of Caledonia, MI, Justin (Elizabeth) Barclay of Grand Rapids, Marcus (Allison) Savage of Grand Rapids, Kenneth (Julie) Bultman of Seattle, Washington, Barbara Sattler of Grand Rapids; and longtime friends, Beverly Hunt of Fremont, MI and Squeak (Cork) McDonald. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Cooley.
A memorial service for Marie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2018, at Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services – The VanZantwick Chapel with Rev. Kurt Wenzelburger officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
