Marie Caroline Papanek (Sekeres)'s Obituary
Marie Caroline (Sekeres) Papanek of Norton Shores, MI died January 30th 2007 in Lake Forest IL surrounded by her loving children. She is survived by her brother Martin Sekeres (Bernadine, Sandusky OH) her sisters Shirley Milder, Sally (Norm) Crouch, Carol Winicki and her dear friends Marilyn and Herb Smith all of Muskegon MI. Marie was proud of her children; Mary Ann Papanek-Miller Artist, Professor and Chair of the Department of Art at The University of Montana (Michael Miller) of Missoula MT, Paula E. Papanek Ph.D., MPT, LAT/ATC, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and Director of Exercise Sci. at Marquette University, Milwaukee WI, Carolyn Papanek Eichelman recently VP of Sales and Product Development for Children’s Apparel Co. (Dale) of Lake Forest IL and John M. Papanek LCSW with Our Lady of Peace (Nicki Carter, LCSW) of Sellersburg IN. Her children’s dreams and accomplishments were born in Maries’ love for reading as she valued their first library cards at The Hinsdale Public Library and considered learning as gold. She was known for her charming and warm personality and for her smart wit and keen mind and she couldn’t be beat at “Jeopardy”. Marie adored her granddaughters Emma and Sara Eichelman and she was “Nother Mommy” to Maggie and Katalin Skelton (Wauwatosa WI). She found great joy in the lives of her many nieces and nephews and her many great nieces and nephews and she treasured her friends from grade school and junior high in Muskegon. She attended Muskegon Heights High School and married John Papanek Jr. and they raised their 4 children in Hinsdale IL. She returned home to Muskegon in 1985. Marie was preceded in death by her husband John Papanek Jr., her parents Mary & Martin Sekeres and dear aunts Rose and Carrie. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday February 3rd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. James Wyse presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. As an alternative to flowers please consider donating a book to your local library in Marie’s name, making a donation to the Rescue Mission of MI or contributing to a new scholarship in her name for the study of Geriatric Physical Therapy at Marquette University PT Dept, PO Box 1881, Milwaukee WI 53201.
