Marilyn J. Zimmer's Obituary
Marilyn Jean Zimmer, 88, passed away at her home in Norton Shores on Friday, September 1, 2017. Born April 8, 1929 in Muskegon, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Kooi and Mary Lintjer Kooi. She attended Muskegon High School, graduating in 1947. Marilyn met the love of her life, William (Bill) Alfred Zimmer, of Muskegon Heights, and they married October 20, 1950. Marilyn loved her family, friends and church and was a lifelong member of the Reformed Church. Marilyn and Bill were instrumental when members of the former Fifth Reformed Church created Pine Grove Reformed Church in Norton Shores. She was a current member of Unity Reformed Church. She was passionate about music and a devoted member of her church choirs. Marilyn worked for many years at Fisher-Pawlowski Greenhouse. She loved flowers, gardening and watching birds. She is survived by her four children, William Zimmer and his wife Ginger Davis, of Casper, WY, Gayle Townsend and her husband Robert of North Muskegon, Cheryl Zimmer of Muskegon and Mark Zimmer of Norton Shores, and five grandchildren Emily Zimmer of Dundas MN, William Lee Zimmer of Casper, Elly Zimmer of Tucson AZ, Stephanie Townsend of Traverse City and Heather Zimmer of Muskegon. Marilyn treasured her great-grandchildren Penelope, Reed and Frederick (Fritz) Roiger, Serayah Zimmer, Michelle Zimmer, and Jacob and Rose Liss. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Donna Augustin and Pat Lumbert. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Unity Reformed Church, (1521 Porter Rd.) with Pastor Dave Celeskey officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Norton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to Unity Reformed Church or Harbor Hospice will be appreciated.
