Marion F. Helmers' Obituary
Marion Francis Helmers, age 90, of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at a local care facility. She was born February 23, 1922, in Coopersville to Jacob P. and Georgiana (Smith) Smith, and she married Lewis Helmers on October 10, 1946, in Coopersville. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1992.
Marion worked during WWII in factories and restaurants and volunteered as an usher at the Civic Theatre and 40 years at the Red Cross. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Grand Haven and served on the board of the building committee for Christian Haven Home. Marion was a “good old fashion mom” who loved to keep things clean, bake cookies and candy, especially at Christmas. Marion was an avid bowler and golfer and a long time member of the Grand Haven Golf Club.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marilew Helmers of Grand Haven; her son, Jim (Beth) Helmers of Grand Haven; 3 grandchildren: Jamie (Jim) Groesbeck, Margaret (Nick) Mosley, and Kimberly Helmers; 2 great-grandchildren, Eliana and Alexander Mosley; 2 sisters, Jean Rogers of Coopersville and Margie (Jack) Miller of Spring Lake; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis, and brothers-in-law: Wayne Leatherman, Mark Rollenhagen, Bill Rogers; 2 nephews, Larry Rollenhagen and Jack Leatherman; a niece, Janet Rollenhagen (Larry) Reinertson; and 2 great-nieces.
The Funeral Service for Marion will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, July 28, 2012, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Gary Lacy officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
