Marjorie Jean "Margie" Newton's Obituary
Marjorie Jean “Margie” Newton, age 81, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Metron of Lamont. She was born April 17, 1938, in Muskegon to John and Florence (Arbogast) Lockard, and she married Gilbert Allen Newton, Sr. on January 2, 1954. He preceded her in death in August 1996.
Margie worked as the head cook at Shore Haven Nursing Home for over 30 years, and also at Win Schuler’s in Grand Haven. She was a former member of The Salvation Army and St. John Lutheran Churches. Margie also loved to go to flea markets, yard sales, shopping, traveling, listening to music, reading Amish romance books, and spending time with her cats and dogs.
She is lovingly remembered by three daughters: Gale Newton, Florence (Sue) Newton, and Faith (Jeff) Wright; son, Gilbert (Tracy) Newton, Jr.; four grandchildren: Angela Richards, Robert (Jill) Newton, Kenneth Wright, and Matt Wright; four great-grandchildren: Jayden, Braylon, Morgan, and Hensley; and brother, John Lockard. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Barbara Stillson, Sandra Lewis, and Janet “Penni” Woirol, one brother, Gary Lockard, and daughter-in-law, Louise Newton.
A funeral service for Margie will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2019, at The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 East Savidge Street, Spring Lake, MI 49417 with Pastor Elaine Lutz officiating. Friends may meet the family 4-7 p.m. Friday, October 25, at The Spring Lake Chapel. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Agape’ Love Ministries are appreciated.
