Marjorie "Dollie" Plowman's Obituary
Mrs. Marjorie “Dollie” Plowman, age 89, of Grand Haven passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at Grand Pines Assisted Living. She was born May 19, 1928 in Chicago to Paul and Isabella (Heuel) Liesen. On October 7, 1950 she married Jack Plowman and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1993.
Dollie was a member of St. Patrick – St. Anthony Catholic Church. After raising eight children, Dollie returned to the work force as a secretary at St Patrick’s before retiring from NBD Bank in 1977. Dollie was very active at church and a staunch believer in the Catholic faith. She sang in the choir, belonged to Bible studies and taught Christian doctrine to high school students, then known as CCD. She remained very active volunteering both in Grand Haven and Sumter, South Carolina. Her volunteer work included the grade school reading programs, Meals on Wheels, Cheaps Stacks at Loutit District Library, and the Tri-Cities Historical Museum. Dollie was very creative; she was an excellent seamstress, excelled in quilting and enjoyed gardening. After her husband, Jack, passed away she continued to enjoy traveling abroad with friends and family. Dollie loved her family and was so proud of each and every one of them, and she will be greatly missed by all of them.
She is survived by eight children: Geraldine VanderSys, Paula (Jeff) Vollmer, John (Julie) Plowman, Roberta (Ken) Nauta, Elizabeth (Douglas) VanCura, Peter (Kim) Plowman, Joseph (Dana) Plowman, and Mary Booth; twenty-one grandchildren: Chris (Ericka) VanderSys, Martha (Joe) Wilfert, Abby (Josh) Litt, Amy (Kyle) Rademaker, Luke (Sarah) Sitzer, Joshua (Ashley) Sitzer, Katie (Fred) Hudson, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Vollmer, Amanda (Daryl) Smith, Nick Plowman, Clint Nauta, Dean (Tracey) Nauta, Taylor (Jordan) Bandstra, Samantha (Jeff) Stowers, Adam VanCura, Zachary (Rebecca) Plowman, Ryan (Ally) Plowman, Jackie Plowman, Libby, Jack, and Luke Plowman, Veronica and Griffin Booth; twenty – four great-grandchildren: Henry, Josie, Maggie, Sophie, Max, and Kate VanderSys, Thomas and Nolan Wilfert, Emma, Rose and Adam Litt, Claire Rademaker, Paige Sitzer, Alexis Morgan, Benjamin and Samuel Hudson, Cole and Grant Nauta, Naia Washington, Isabelle and Cooper Nauta, Porter Bandstra, Eleanor VanCura, Benjamin Stowers; brother, Dr. Gerald (Mary) Liesen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Vircelle Ambler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. Patrick – St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Charles Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday, September 15, 2017 at The VanZantwick Chapel (620 Washington Ave) and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lakeshore Cemetery.
