Marlene J. Mathews' Obituary
Marlene J. Mathews, age 89, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family on Thursday, February 6, 2025. She was born July 14, 1935 in Muskegon to Frank L. and Evelyn D. (Carlson) Heimann and lived her entire life in the area. Marlene married Ben E. Mathews on September 22, 1956 in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on September 1, 2013. Prior to retiring in 1997, she worked at Chaddock, Winters and Albert Insurance Agency and later for Viking Foods. She was a member of Harbor of Grace Lutheran Church (formerly Our Savior’s Lutheran Church). Marlene loved spending time with her neighborhood coffee club and attending her retiree’s lunches. She enjoyed camping years ago and especially loved the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include 3 children, Jill (Kevin) Brueck, Larry (Tammie) Mathews, Michael (Stacey) Mathews; 3 grandchildren, Melissa (Aaron) Burns, Michael (Kara) Bruek, Clinton (Cassi) Mathews; and 9 great grandchildren, Briahna, Jaxon, Haylee, Annabelle, Easton, Carson, Caila, Colton, and Caden; and sister-in-law, Judy Heimann. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother, Paul Heimann. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Harbor of Grace Lutheran Church, 1132 W Southern Ave., Muskegon, MI 49441, with Rev. John “Jack” Ferra officiating. Visitation will be held 3-7 PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. Interment will take place at Norton Cemetery.
