Marne Kay Houghtaling's Obituary
Marne Kay Houghtaling, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in Ravenna, MI. She was born February 19, 1947, to Arthur and Gertrude (Pryczynski) Schwemer in Muskegon, MI. She graduated from Muskegon High School and then entered the workforce for over 40 years, working for Herman Miller and American Coil Spring. On August 19, 1963, she married George Houghtaling and he preceded her in death on September 2, 2021.
Marne enjoyed bowling and spent time in various bowling leagues. She was an avid reader and even took a speed-reading class to improve her reading skills to read more books. She liked to roller skate when she was younger, and her and George would include skating as part of their dates. Marne loved football, especially the Detroit Lions. Her true love though, was her grandchildren. Marne would not miss a sporting event, school play or any activity that one of her grandchildren was involved in. Marne will be truly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Marne is survived by her children, Darla (Donald) Long, Scott (Ruth) Houghtaling, and John (Lori) Houghtaling; grandchildren, Matthew Vanden Berg, Jessica Holmes, Ann Houghtaling, Noah (Alexandra) Houghtaling and Megan (Tyler) Pitcher; great grandchildren, Adelaide, Aberlein, Kellen, Lily, Kartar, Tyler, Liam, Jewel, and Piper; and sister, Sandra (Randy) Bowman. Along with her husband, George, she was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Tori Houghtaling; and sister, Betsy Schwemer.
