Mrs. Martha Estaline Downs' Obituary
Martha Estaline (Emory) Downs, age 77, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2015 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. Martha was born June 5, 1937 in Lake City, MI to Wilbur and Josephine B. (Werner) Hammond. Martha married Arvid Eugene Emory in 1952 and he preceded her in death in 1959. She married Arthur Alan Downs in 1960 and he passed away in 1976. Martha was a wonderful homemaker with a passion for gardening. She was very active in the Fruitport Eagles throughout the years. Martha also enjoyed arts and crafts and will be deeply missed by family and friends. She is survived by her children, Sharon Sokolowski of Newaygo, Daniel (Joyce) Emory of Wolf Lake, Teresa Emory of Muskegon, Joseph (Jennifer) Emory of Whitehall, Bernard (Ron Beak) Downs of Grand Rapids, Robin (David) Kruzel of Muskegon, and Dawn (Greg Nichols) Downs of Muskegon; 18 grandchildren, Amanda, Evan, Brandi, Chris, Sean, Brandon, Teresa, Eric, Katie, Jake, Daina, Asia, Kenneth, James, Stephen, Thomas, Christie, and Randy; 33 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Raymond (Rosemary) , Lyle (Theresa), and Kenneth all of Muskegon, and Bill Hammond of Grand Rapids; many, many nieces and nephews; and her close friends, Darlene Eastling and Polly Gilchrist. In addition to Arvid and Arthur, Martha was preceded in death by her son, Robert Downs; brothers, Jerome, Harold and Richard; sisters, Geraldine Farr and Vivian Knapp. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Pastor Elaine Lutz officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 PM. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence.
