Martha Pierce's Obituary
Martha Cornett Pierce, long-time Soledad, CA resident, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2004 on her 98th birthday in Grand Haven, MI. Mrs. Pierce was the wife of Chester “Bob” Pierce of Morro Bay, CA; sister of Emma Costella of Soledad, CA, Earl Cornett of Oregon, Ernest Cornett of California, Clara Gelpy-Rodriguez of Maryland; and mother of Bernadine Seguin of Spring Lake, MI. Mrs. Pierce was a long-time member of the Assembly of God Church in Greenfield, CA, where she played the organ. She taught piano lessons for many years in Soledad. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in San Leandro, CA, Golden Wave Chapter #103. During World War II she worked as a welder in the shipyards in Oakland, CA, which she considered her patriotic duty. Mrs. Pierce is survived by her grandchildren, Larry (Paula) Newman of Reno, NV, Terrie (Steven) Rust of Peoria, AZ, Colette (David) Beighley of Spring Lake, MI; as well as her great-grandchildren, Nathan (Sarah) Beighley, Collin Beighley, Dylan Rust, Nicholas Beighley, and Chloe’ Marie Beighley. A private family service was held Sunday, September 5, in Spring Lake. Final interment will take place in Soledad, CA. Memorial contributions to North Ottawa Care Center would be appreciated.
