Martin Mayer's Obituary
Martin “Marty” Stephen Mayer, age 59, of West Olive passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 21, 2005, at a Muskegon hospital. Born May 12, 1946, to John and Elizabeth (Snyder) Mayer in Remus, Mich., he married Alice Ann Volovlek April 30, 1966 in Grand Haven.
A lifelong area resident, Marty retired from Morgan Manufacturing of Grand Rapids July 29, 2005. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a former usher; a member of the Knights of Columbus; and treasurer of the Slovenian Farmer’s Club. Marty enjoyed card games and he bowled on many area bowling leagues.
Marty is survived by his wife Alice of 39 years; 8 sisters: Caroline Grandville, Phoenix, AZ; Margaret Simon, Mecosta; Mary Ellen (Donald) Blough, Mecosta; Agnes (Thomas) Barker, Wyoming, MI; Dorothy (Ron) Hart, Mecosta; Rosemary (Zane) Rice, Cedar Springs; Joanne (Phil) Lundie, Mecosta; Shirley (Rick) Denslow, Remus; 9 brothers: Robert (Iris) of Sheridan; Michael (Edith) of Brighton; Gerald (Kathy) of Owosso; Arnold (Joyce) of Evart; Donald (Linda) of Remus; Rich (Kathy) of Grand Haven; John Jr. (Julie) of Remus; Earl of Mecosta; Eugene (Dawn) of Midland; numerous nieces and nephews. His sister, Barbara Yanez, and parents preceded him in death.
A funeral liturgy for Martin S. Mayer will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. William Langlois as celebrant. Friends may meet the family 5-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., Thursday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven; and at church Friday one hour prior to the service from 9 until 10 a.m. Interment will be in Historic Cemetery, Grand Haven.
