Martin George "Marty" Nic's Obituary
Martin George “Marty” Nic, age 86, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Marty was born February 14, 1940 in Muskegon, MI to Michael J. and Bernadine A. (Hutta) Nic and lived all of his life in the area. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War. On May 4, 1968, he married Diane M. Ziuraitis in Grand Rapids, MI and she survives him. Marty worked as a facility technician for GTE for 37 years and retired in 1997. Marty had lots of hobbies and you could always find him in the barn, tinkering away—whether it was one of his motorcycles, a car, or whatever project had captured his attention at the time. A true hot rod enthusiast, he especially loved working on and driving his ’32 Ford Roadster. He also had a deep appreciation for British motorcycles and found great joy on the water, where his love for wooden boats naturally showed. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church before its closing and had been a member of Tatra Hall. Survivors include his loving wife, Diane Nic; 2 children, Mark Nic, Jenny Nic; 1 grandson, Zach (Katlin) Nic; 2 great grandsons, Noah and Hudson Nic and one on the way; his sister-in-law, Judy Nic; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Michael J. Nic, Jr., Dorothy (Sam) Lakos, Sister Michael Ann Nic OP, and John Nic, Sr. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 239 W. Clay Ave., Muskegon, MI 49440, with his brother-in-law, Fr. Gary Ziuraitis presiding. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
