Mr. Marvin Donald DeWall's Obituary
Mr. Marvin Donald DeWall, age 89, passed away at his home Thursday, August 9, 2018. Marv was born on Christmas Day in 1928 to Corniel and Jeanette (Wierengo) DeWall in Muskegon. On May 12, 1948 he married the former Susan J. Maring. Marv was employed by Anderson Packing, Charlie Koster and managed Scotty’s Thriftway in Muskegon. He then co-owned and operated DeWall’s Thriftway in Newaygo. He later went on to work as a salesman in produce, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Fruitport Christian Reformed Church. A former member of First CRC, he served as an elder and deacon and was on the golf and bowling leagues through the church. He was on the board of Christian Care where he visited and cared for many folks. He was also an active member of Muskegon Christian School where he served on the school board. He also coached little league in the Muskegon area. Marv loved to golf, travel and watch ballgames. He was a good, Christian man who will be missed by his wife of 70 years, Susan; his sons, Steve (Pam) DeWall and Jeff (Julie) DeWall; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; his brothers, Corniel “Niel” DeWall and Bob (Judy) DeWall; and sister-in-law, Sharon DeWall. Marv was preceded in death by his son, Terry and brother, Philip. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Rev. Ecko DeVries officiating. VISITATION will be 5-8 PM Monday. Memorial Contributions may be made to Muskegon Rescue Mission, Muskegon Christian School or Western Michigan Christian High School.
