Mr. Marvin James Hoeksema's Obituary
Mr. Marvin James Hoeksema, age 91, passed into the hands of his heavenly Father, Saturday evening, January 25, 2014. Born November 19, 1922 in Muskegon to Bert and Gertrude (Medendorp) Hoeksema. He married Louise Maring in July 1946 and they were married for 27 years until her death in May 1973. He then married Mildred “Millie” Musgrave Maring in January 1975 and she preceded him in death in September 2012. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley McCarthy, a son, James Hoeksema, 2 brothers, Jay and John Hoeksema, and 3 sisters, Betty Hoeksema, Evelyn Buthker, and Audrey Burgess. SURVIVORS include his children: Larry (Karen) Hoeksema, Muriel Hoeksema, David Hoeksema, Linda VanDyke, Paula (Doug) Hoeker, Alan (Sandy) Maring, Sherri (David) Mulkey, and a daughter-in-law Madelyn Hoeksema Green; 23 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Delores (Pete) Bishop; and a brother, Ronald Hoeksema. Marv worked for General Telephone Co. for 40 years in Muskegon, Three Rivers, MI, Tampa, FL, and Madison, WI. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWII. He was currently a member of Unity Reformed Church. Marv placed his trust in the Lord throughout his life and found peace and comfort in Him. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Unity Reformed Church, 1521 Porter Rd., with Rev. Kyle DeYoung officiating. Interment will take place in Restlawn Cemetery. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Muskegon Rescue Mission, Harbor Hospice – Poppen Residence, or the Memorial Fund of Unity Reformed Church.
