Marvin L. Piersma's Obituary
Mr. Marvin L. Piersma, age 84, of Grand Haven passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 9, 1930 in Grand Rapids to Benjamin and Dora (Tinch) Piersma.
Marvin proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. As a man of God, Marve's Christian faith was the foundation for his life, family, profession, and philanthropic activities. Marve willingly served the Lord at church and in his community. He served as president of Kiwanis of Wyoming, Michigan. Marve was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church of Grand Rapids, Michigan and continued to serve in other churches and organizations after moving to Grand Haven, Michigan. The Lord led Marvin through many adventures and accomplishments in his life.
Marve was at his happiest with his wife and family. Marve loved playing golf with family and friends, especially after he finally convinced Ruth to take golf lessons. One of his greatest joys was attending his grandkids' many activities and watching them grow in faith and life.
Marvin was the founder of Metron Integrated Health Systems as an entrepreneur and business leader. He built a successful business that has touched the lives of many. His faith and desire to care for people provided the foundation for all of his professional endeavors.
On September 20, 1955 he married the former Ruth Anne Dogger in Holland and she survives him along with three children: Mark (Susan) Piersma of Rockford, Jean (Brian) Cummings of Atlanta, Georgia, and Nancy (Mark) Harrison of Spring Lake; Nine grandchildren: Sarah (Aaron) Crawford, Benjamin, Rebecca and Matthew Piersma, Alexandria, Micaela, Conrad Cummings, John Mark and Rachel Van Duinen; one great-granddaughter, Josephine Crawford. He is also survived by one sister, Bonnie Woodworth. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ben (Marilyn) Piersma, two sisters, Geraldine (Gil) Richards, Ruth (Darren) Wills, and brother-in-law, Dale Woodworth.
Funeral Service for Marvin will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 19, 2014 at Harvest Bible Chapel in West Olive with Rev. Ken Gentzler officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday, September 18 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will take place in Lakeshore Cemetery.
