Marvin Harold Wegner's Obituary
Marvin Harold Wegner, age 70, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, in Muskegon, MI. He was born December 6, 1952, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Harold and Wilma (Kwekkeboom) Wegner. He graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1971 and attended Muskegon Community College and Grand Valley State University. On June 29, 1973, he married Janet Aubil and they were able to recently celebrate 50 years together. Marv served over 30 years in Law Enforcement. He served the citizens of the City of North Muskegon for 22 years, 15 years of that time as Police Chief. He then spent 11 years with the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office.
Marv had a servant heart. Not only did he enjoy serving his community, he loved to coach and pour himself into the players, not just to make them better athletes, but to also make them better people. He coached a variation of baseball, softball, and football for over 20 years with the North Muskegon Youth Sports Club and was President of the club for a time. Marv was a Norseman through and through and volunteered countless hours to their athletic programs by maintaining fields, running the time clock and whatever else he could do for the programs. For as much as he loved Norseman athletics, there was nothing more important than his family. He was committed to watching his children play, and eventually his grandchildren, and never missed a sporting event. Marv was a man of Strong Faith and a devoted husband, father, and Papa.
Marv will be dearly missed by his wife, Janet; children, Dan (Kelli) Wegner and Amanda Cihak; grandchildren, Khi Wegner, Kayla Cihak and Cameron Cihak; brothers, Dennis (Joann) Wegner, Wes (Denice) Wegner and Vern (Tina) Wegner. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11 AM on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Laketon Bethel Church (1568 W. Giles Rd., Muskegon, MI 49445) with Rev. Dr. Sherwin Brantsen officiating. VISITATION with the family will take place on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 5-8 PM at the church and 1 hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to Laketon Bethel Church or the North Muskegon Athletic Boosters.
