Marvin L. Nienhouse's Obituary
Marvin Louis Nienhouse, age 88, of Norton Shores was called Home by his Lord Friday, December 4, 2009. He was born December 16, 1920, in Spring Lake to John and Minnie Nienhouse and attended DeWitt School. Sixty-three years ago on November 16, 1946, Marv married Bernice E. Ortquist in Spring Lake.
Marv proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and loved his country and the American Flag. He worked as a cabinet maker for Story & Clark Piano, was known for his ability to fix most anything and was an excellent mason. Marv was a member of Spring Lake First Reformed Church where he assisted as a custodian, life member of Sgt. Alvin Jonker VFW Post #2326 and American Legion Charles Conklin Post #28. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, was known for his gardening, wood working and spending time with friends drinking coffee.
Marv is lovingly survived by his wife, Bernice; 2 daughters, Anita (Paul) McCaulley of Oklahoma and Julie Thoma of Muskegon; 3 sons: Charlie (Nancy) of Grand Haven, Mike (Connie) of Grand Haven, Don (Amber) of Muskegon; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Chuck (Marcella); a sister-in-law, Thelma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Mary, and 3 brothers: Louie, John and Bill.
A service celebrating Marv’s life will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church.
