Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Baldwin's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Baldwin, age 80, of Spring Lake passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Heartwood Lodge. She was born in Detroit on April 24, 1938, to Richard and Mary (Hunt) Kotting, and she married Edward “Ed” Baldwin on September 3, 1960.
Beth graduated from the University of Michigan School of Nursing in 1960. She spent most of her career as a Registered Nurse for Ottawa County Public Health Department. In this role, she partnered with Career Line Tech Center and the hospital on the teen parent program which she found very fulfilling. Beth was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Altar Guild and served on the Board of Directors at North Ottawa Community Hospital and Senior Resources. She was very committed to her community giving time to Planned Parenthood, Women in Transition, and Counterpart. She cherished the company of her friends whether at book or stock club, birthday-wine, Taco Tuesday, Sunday supper, or an outing to cheer on her beloved U of M football or basketball teams. She found peace in working or sitting in her garden. Her family and especially her grandkids brought her great joy.
Beth is lovingly remembered by her husband, Edward “Ed” Baldwin of Spring Lake; three children: Stephen Baldwin of Milwaukee, Susan (Ernie) Petrus of Spring Lake, and Amy Hough of Spring Lake; four grandchildren: Bryson and Ani Hough, Logan and Tessa Petrus; her sister, Ann (George) Sadowsky; and brother, Richard Kotting. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Kenneth Michnay and Rev. Lily Marx officiating. Friends may meet the family Monday, June 25, from 4-7 p.m. at Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services – The Spring Lake Chapel.
