Mary G. Barteau's Obituary
Mary Gertrude Barteau, age 72, passed away unexpectedly in Grand Haven, MI, on March 2, 2024. She was born August 15, 1951 in Muskegon, MI, and was a proud graduate of Muskegon High School class of 1969. On September 18, 1971, she married her high school sweetheart, John, and the two of them shared 52 years of loving memories together. In 2000, they moved from Muskegon to Grand Haven. In 2019, Mary retired from Gentex after 25 years of employment. After retirement, she was fully able to enjoy her love of Arts & Craft shows. Nearly every weekend she and her husband would travel all over Michigan searching for that perfect piece to add to her collections. Mary loved traveling, and the two took many road trips together. Her favorite places to visit were Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, the Great Smoky Mountains, and out west through the Rockies. Mary also loved her grandchildren and grand-dog, and often boasted about them. Mary is survived by her husband, John Barteau; daughter, Amy Barteau Page; son, Philip Barteau; granddaughter, Haley Page; grandson, Nathan Page; grand-dog, Rex Page; brothers: Dave (Vickie) Witham; Wayne (Joanne) Witham; sister-in-law, Jackie (Pat) McWhinnie; as well as a host of other relatives and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Elmer Witham, and son-in-law, Scott Page. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Harbor Humane Society of West Olive. There will be no formal funeral per Mary's wishes. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442.
