Mary Elizabeth Boone's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Bettie” Boone, age 96, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020 in Muskegon. She was born in Hattiesburg, MS on August 23, 1924 to Daniel and Alma (Hansen) Allard. Bettie enrolled in the Army Cadet Nurse Program, starting at the Mercy Central School of Nursing. She served an assignment at the Kalamazoo State Psychiatric Hospital followed by a term at the Herman Kiefer Communicable Disease Hospital in Detroit. She continued her career as a registered nurse with Mercy Hospital for over 40 years prior to her retirement in 1986. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Bettie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and card club. Bettie married Kenneth Boone in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by two children, Janet Girardin and David (Janet) Boone; grandchildren, Christine (Dan) Dawson, Heather Boone, Chris (Becca) Boone, Ryan (Erin) Boone, and Cody Boone; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William (Alice) Allard and Paul Allard. In addition to her husband, Bettie was preceded in death by her son, James Boone; one sister, Arlys Derrick; and three brothers, Daniel Allard, Robert Allard, and John Allard. Her CHRISTIAN FUNERAL SERVICE will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, September 18, 2020 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken Ave., Norton Shores, MI 49441) with Fr. Charles D. Hall presiding. VISITATION will be one hour prior to her mass at church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
