Mrs. Mary A. Buit's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Alice Buit, age 86, passed away March 30, 2021, in Muskegon. She was born on November 26, 1934 to John and Bessie (Langland) Ackerman in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. Mary was a longtime member of Unity Reformed Church, where she was involved in the choir, Lois Circle and the XYZ Group. She worked as a bookkeeper for her late husband’s business, and later worked at Burger King as a hostess. She enjoyed crocheting hats and blankets, camping, traveling to 46 states, shopping for sales, bingo and the Christmas holiday. She especially loved being with her family and friends. On June 18, 1953 she married Robert A. Buit, and he preceded her in death on January 26, 2020. Survivors include 4 children: Linda (Glen) Tillema, Dave (Pam) Buit, Doug Buit, Dan (Angie Capuno) Buit’ 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Marilyn (Bert) Bowen, Joyce Start, Karen Scraver; plus many nieces and nephews. Mary was also preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Tillema in 2018; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Delmar Ackerman, and brother-in-law, Clarence Start. A memorial service to remember and celebrate Mary’s life will be held June 22, 2021 at 6:30 PM at Unity Reformed Church, 1521 Porter Road. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Mary was laid to rest with her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Buit may be made to the American Cancer Society or Healthwest, 376 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, 49442. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
