Mary Ellen Camp's Obituary
Mary Ellen Camp, age 74, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Fountain View Assisted Living in Coopersville, where she had been residing. Mary was born November 10, 1950, in Muskegon, MI, to Walter Freeman and Dorothy's Mae (Hoffius) Camp. Mary worked for the State of Michigan in the Unemployment Agency and later as a caseworker for the Department of Human Services, and retired in 2002 after 34 years of service. Mary was the best mother anyone could ask for. Being single and independent, she made sure that her son had anything he may have needed, and then did the same for her grandson. She had more than enough love for anybody she crossed paths with. Mary was always colorful when in her presence, with never a dull moment. She loved her animals so very much and was always donating to the local shelters. You’ll be deeply missed and always in our thoughts. Love you, Mom, to the moon and back. Survivors include her son, Clinton (Mulissa Gonzalez) Camp; her chosen daughter, Shawn Byrnes; her grandson, Trenton Camp; her brother, Robert Camp; 3 nieces, Heather (Harpeet Mangat) Camp, Heidi Camp, and Amanda (Justin) Dieleman; her aunt, Juanita Zuder; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law, Barbara Camp, and her nephew, Jason Camp. Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM Monday, June 2, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Following visitation, there will be a gathering in Mary's honor at Pop A Top Tavern from 4-7 PM, 2185 Henry St., Muskegon, MI. Interment will take place at Norton Cemetery. Contributions can be made at GoFundMe, The Mary Ellen Camp Foundation. Sign the online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com
