Aunt Mary was the reigning matriarch of the Bigford and Coats family for decades. She was a mistress of the domestic arts, loved a good story, had a delighted and hearty laugh, and always received us with warmth, hugs and inimitable hospitality.
For decade upon decade we ventured to Spring Lake for a fabulous Thanksgiving feast and she always arranged stunning table decor. She was a surrogate mother to my husband and me and a surrogate grandmother to my three children. She captured our hearts.
I have such warm and loving memories of Mary Coats and the entire Coats family starting with my childhood and playing at Prospect Point. I was fortunate enough to stay in touch with Mary throughout the rest of her life, much to my favor. She was warm, loving and so in love with her family. She will be missed.
