Mary C. DeYoung's Obituary
Mary Christine DeYoung, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in Muskegon, MI. Mary was born on March 22, 1933, to her parents, Alva and Viva (Laubach) Auble. On December 9, 1949, she married Richard Martin DeYoung, and they spent 52 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 2002. She went to Muskegon High School, and later worked in Fruitport as a school bus driver for 25 years. Mary was a social person, she loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing, as well as going to the casino and going boating. In her younger years she often went snowmobiling, and she was a member of the Pairs and Squares square dancing group. She enjoyed taking trips to Florida and Arizona with her husband, but continued going even after he had passed. She most recently attended Calvary Bible Church, where she was a part of a crafting group. Every Sunday she looked forward to going to breakfast with the girls after church. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Karan (George) Valler, Bonnie (Ray) Neff, and Dan (Sara) DeYoung; eight grandchildren: Daniel (April) Valler, Debra (Lance) Benedict, Tom (Amanda) DeYoung, Chris (Ashley) DeYoung, Candice (Richard) Tease, Petra Valler, Emily (Ryan) Weavers, and Thaddeus Barr; 15 great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Phyllis Auble; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Viva Auble; husband, Richard DeYoung; son, Richard J. DeYoung; and four siblings: Donna Mae Roltsch, Delores Asmussen, Alva Auble Jr., and Herbert Auble. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be taking place at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior.
