Mary J. Dice's Obituary
Mrs. Mary J. Dice, age 89, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 in Grand Haven, Michigan. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 9, 1934 to Cornelius and Marguerite (Luikaart) Holwerda. On August 26, 1955, Mary married James R. Dice in Grand Rapids and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage prior to his passing on October 1, 2018. Mary earned her nursing certificate and worked as an LPN prior to becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a member and shepherding elder at Covenant Life Church where she was active with the Regatta and Special Treasures programs and Bible study. Mary enjoyed traveling, gardening, her special walking group, spending time with her family, and especially cherished being a grandma. She is survived by her children, Deborah (Randy) Smith, David (Deb Fragel) Dice, Kathy (Steve) Zeboor, John (Linda) Dice, and Amy (Jim) Bursma; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Laurie Holwerda. In addition to her husband, Jim, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill and Dan Holwerda; and sister, Carol Sterkenburg. VISITATION will be held from 2-4 & 5-7 PM Monday, June 5, 2023 at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Covenant Life Church, 101 Columbus Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. A private burial will be in Lakeshore Cemetery.
